Desktop Technical Services Checkout System COSC 2810 Johanna Callan Faroza Asghar
Existing System Desktop Technical Services rents out laptops and projectors to professors and faculty This equipment may be reserved ahead of time or may be requested by dropping by the office
Existing Checkout Process To check out, a form is filled out and placed in the ‘checked out’ bin When equipment is returned, the form is signed by the renter and placed in the ‘checked in’ bin Each time an item is returned, the stack of forms in the checked out bin must be sorted through by hand
Existing System
Problems of Existing System For a technical services office, it seems a paper checkout system is out-of-date It is tedious and time consuming searching through a stack of papers Sometimes the form gets lost and cannot be found in the checkout bin It’s easy to forget to have customer sign the form upon item return
Proposed System The new system will use an interactive graphical environment to provide a user-friendly interface Will make use of a database to store availability of items and their status
Proposed System New system would allow lab assistants to: check in/out items check item availability hold reservations by name of renter view calendar of reservations look up rentals by item look up rentals by name of renter monitor current rentals
