Gather together objects to place. Place a pencil on a chair. Ask; ‘Where is the pencil?’ miming being puzzled. Point to the pencil, saying ‘The pencil is on the chair!’ miming being pleased finding it. Repeat with other objects and the other prepositions. Ask pupils to repeat each time. Play the ‘Find the cat’ game described on slide 4 Say a sentence: Ask pupils to lay out the cards in front of them. Use the book to say the sentence… ‘The cat is in the box’ etc. Ask pupils to pick up the correct card and repeat… ‘The cat is in the box’ etc. Repeat for all the cards, until pupils have learned the new sentences. Work in pairs. Ask pupils to check each other. One pupil can call; ‘The cat is in the box’ etc., and one can show the card.

(under a book, in a box, etc.) Ask pupils to open their eyes and make a guess. They have to say the sentence. ‘The cat is under the book’, etc. The pupil who guesses right gets a turn at hiding the cat. You may wish to give each pupil a turn, instead. Continue to play until the sentences with prepositions are secure. The next slide provides enough cats for pairs to play.
