 Why is making connections in the deaf community important?

 What is the importance of making connections with people?  How do you make connections? What information do you look for?

 Fold it into 4 th s so you have 4 equal boxes  Then, while it is folded, fold the corner that connects all into a small triangle  Open the paper and you should have 5 places to write

 People want to know what to expect.  Deaf people relate to others to know what to look forward to in their relationship  How you connect with a deaf individual will help determine your connection with the Deaf community

 You need to be able to spell both (fs of course)  The Deaf person will also spell their first and last name  Don’t be shy to ask for repetition  Why does this matter?

 Deaf people have many shared experiences  Helps move the introduction in the appropriate direction

 Deaf people want to know where you grow up  If you went to a deaf school- if so where?  What years you went to school  If you went to Gallaudet  People you may know in common

 Where you are learning/learned ASL  Why you wanted to learn  Who was your teacher  How long you have been signing

 Deaf community  Deaf events (community activities)  Why are they important to the deaf and hearing?

 What is the difference between this and Deaf?  Why is this an important factor to making connections?
