Slide 2 of 5 STScI COS News TAGFLASH: This mode (TIME-TAG with regular comparison lamp exposures) was added to deal with OSM drifts Timing analysis showed that all lamp exposures were starting slightly late (1 to 2 sec) First flash about 2 sec late; others about 1 sec Initial time pad in commanding too large by ~1 sec; now reduced Latency in lamp turn-on is source of remaining delays; flash durations to be increased to compensate Full analysis of drift from TV2 to be completed in fall; present estimate of S/N looks OK
Slide 3 of 5 STScI COS News Exposure Time Calculator (ETC): Spectroscopic ETC is complete, but testing showed need for change (double precision in bin sizes needed, depending on platform) Acquisition and imaging ETC in progress, to be tested soon Will coordinate testing and verification with IDT Bright Object Protection checks: APT now includes access to Galex information Final check of this in APT requires ETC completion to check count rates Documents: First draft of COS Instrument Handbook in revision Second draft to be ready July 23 IDT review of second draft requested Released with CP in December
