Hello! I look forward to working with each of you over the next year. As a new teacher here at Rutledge Hall, here’s a bit about me: Undergraduate degrees in marketing & finance Masters degree in elementary education Spent 10+ years in brand & advertising research Student taught at Coonley Elementary & worked as an Intervention Specialist at Audubon Elementary, both in CPS A focus of our classroom will be the formation and defense of opinions while respectfully challenging the opinions of others. Regardless of subject matter, lessons will encourage lively discussions and active listening skills

A Typical Day in Room 25 Time Subject 8:00 – 8:30 Unpack/HW Review/Morning Work 8:30 – 9:30 Specials (PE, Music, Art, Library) 9:30 – 11:00 Reading 11:05 – 11:50 Lunch/Recess 12:00 – 12:30 Writing 12:30 – 1:30 Math 1:30 – 2:30 Science or Social Studies 2:30 – 2:45 Pack-Up/HW Review/End of Day Question

Reading The curriculum provides: Direct instruction on comprehension skills Specific strategies on preparing to read (before), making meaning (during), and understanding text (after) Exposure to a variety of text, including fiction and non-fiction Vocabulary development Response to literature through writing Independent reading

Language Arts The curriculum provides: Writing instruction Grammar instruction Spelling instruction Opportunities for different types of writing are incorporated across the fourth grade curriculum: Narrative Informational/Expository Persuasive

Mathematics Everyday Math provides: A balanced curriculum that is rich real-world problem solving opportunities Alignment with the national and state Common Core standards A spiral curriculum that focuses on numeration, computation, data & chance, measurement, geometry, patterns, and functions

Science National Geographic provides: Instruction in physical science Immersion in the science inquiry process Abundant hands on explorations

Social Studies Social Studies Alive provides: Exploration of our country’s regions through an active, student-centered approach Students will explore the geography, history, economy, culture & government within each region Experiences that allow students to understand the world around them

Homework Policy Homework assignments reinforce concepts learned in the classroom Expect homework on a nightly basis Students are to write all homework assignments in their assignment notebooks We review homework every morning and afternoon Students are expected to read 30 minutes each night 3 missing assignments = notification

Discipline Policy Classroom rules and school-wide behavior plans ensures all students are given the optimal environment for learning All students are expected to follow the Rutledge Hall Code of Conduct Be Responsible Be Respectful Be Safe Focus will be on positive behaviors, motivating students to act as role models and take ownership of their decisions
