Anesthesiologist By: Myles Kimble

Background Information Anesthesia means the sensation of having pain temporarily blocked or taken away. This allows people to undergo surgery and other operations that normally would not be possible. Can be very dangerous if not given in proper dosage.

Math Needed Calculus is needed to understand why some things in the body work the way they do. Must have a good understanding of statistics in order to interpret and understand research articles and papers. Or to run a test of significance when doing a study. There are a few equations that need to be memorized to pass your board exam. Also geometry might be used if there are certain nerve blocks that might be in the way.

Education Must complete an under-graduate degree in medical sciences, biology, or chemistry. Then like all doctors anesthesiologists must complete four years of medical school. After that they go into a residency for one year of surgical internship and that is followed by a three year anesthesiology training residency.

Salary The median salary for a beginning, practicing anesthesiologist is $321,686

Location You could have this job anywhere medicine is being practiced. So basically anywhere there is a hospital or surgical center.
