Presentation transcript:

Do Now "Now that you have completed two different personality surveys and have seen the results, how accurate do you think they are? Do you think that surveys like this can give you more insight into your personality, or do you think they're completely made up and not based on fact at all? (You are allowed to be somewhere in the middle.) Decide where you stand on this matter, then give at least three valid reasons to support your argument. ("I think these surveys are valid because they tap into a deeper part of your psyche than you usually address" is a valid point; "Because I said so" is not.) Be sure to start your essay with a paragraph that includes an intro to the topic, and finish it up with a closing paragraph that wraps things up."

Sexuality The feelings and attitudes a person has about his or her body, sex role, and relationships.

Sex role The behaviors, attitudes, values and beliefs that a particular cultural group considers appropriate for males and females.

Sexual orientation Refers to one ’ s attraction/feelings toward men and/or women. Is sexual orientation a choice? NO, for most people, sexual orientation emerges in early adolescence without any prior sexual experience.

Sexual Orientation (cont.) Lesbian – Women who are romantically and sexually attracted to only other women. Homosexual (Gay): – Sexual behavior or attractions between people of the same sex. Bisexual – is a sexual orientation which refers to the romantic and/or sexual attraction of individuals to others of both sexes. Transgender – Broadly speaking, transgender people are individuals whose gender expression and/or gender identity differs from conventional expectations based on the physical sex they were born into. (not actually considered sexual orientation) Questioning

Sexualization The process in which a person develops their sexual orientation, sexual health, sex role, and gender identity. Influenced by: Society, Family Personal experience

Gender Identity Describes a person ’ s self-image- on a male- female scale, and how the person presents this identity to the world.

Body Image Body image is how you view your physical self — including whether you feel you are attractive and whether others like your looks. For many people, especially people in their early teens, body image can be closely linked to self-esteem.

DO NOW Objective: Demonstrate how sexuality is used in advertisements. State Standard: Predict the possible long-term effects of adolescent sex on future education, on career plans, and on the various dimensions of wellness. Get your folders from my desk and take a seat Take out your picture of sexuality in the media Take out a piece of paper and write if you would buy this product because of the advertisement

Write an Essay Answering: How was sexuality used to sell this product. Does it enhance or take away from the product. Recreate the advertisement without using any negative sexual content.
