How to Add Animations and Narration to Your PowerPoint Presentation Ms. Chen North Shore High School AP Biology

Click on one of the following to go to the directions for the different versions of PowerPoint For PowerPoint 2010 For PowerPoint 2003

Directions for PowerPoint2010 Create your images: – Click on “Home” tab at the top of the screen. This will give you a menu at the top of the screen. – About 1/3 of the way from the right of the menu, click on the shape that you want to create. If you do not immediately see the shape that you want, then click on the small down arrow to scroll through other choices. – Draw your shapes on your slide to represent the different molecules in your pathway. – To change colors of your shapes, click on the shape and then click on the “Shape Fill” button in the menu (about 1/6 of the way in from the right)

Directions for PowerPoint2010 Animate your images: – Click on the image that you want to animate. – Click on the “Animations” tab at the top of the screen. You will see a menu appear at the top. – Click on the little down arrow roughly in the middle of the menu and scroll down to “Lines”, “Arcs”, or “Turns”. – Click on one of those. – Move your mouse over the green arrow until you have a single double-headed arrow ( ). Then click and move the green arrow to where on the screen you want to start the animation. – Move your mouse over the red arrow until you have a single double headed arrow. Then click and move the red arrow to where you want the animation to end. Lines Arcs

Doing a custom path animation For “Custom Path”, click on the shape you want to animate. Click on “Animations” tab at the top of the screen. Scroll down to “Custom Path” and click on that. Click where you want to start the animation and then keep clicking where you want the image to move through the screen. Double click where you want the animation to end. Custom Path

What to do if you do not like the animation? If you do not like the animation, you can delete it. – Click on the image. – Click on the little box with a number in it next to the animated image. – Hit “Delete” key on your keyboard.

Preparing for Recording Narration and Timing When you have finished your slides and your animations and have drafted your narration for each slide and animation, you should practice reading the narration and clicking “Enter” or the “  ” arrow button to proceed through your presentation. Then you are ready to record your narration.

Recording narration and timing Plug a microphone into the microphone jack of your computer. Open your presentation. Click on “Slide Show” tab at top of screen. Click on “Record Slide Show”. Check “Slide and animation timings” and “Narration and Laser Pointer” Click “Start Recording”. You will see a small window that contains buttons to control your recording in the top left of your screen. When you are finished, click the small “x” in the top right corner of the recording controls window.

How to edit a narration or timing Click on the “Slide Show” tab at the top of the screen. Click on the slide that has an error. Click on the down arrow within the “Record Slide Show” button on the menu. Click on “Clear” and choose to clear the narration and timing for that slide. Click on the down arrow within “Record Slide Show” button and choose “Start Recording from Current Slide” Click “Start Recording”. You will see a small window that contains buttons to control your recording. When you are finished with the narration and animations, click on the small “x” in the top right corner of the recording controls window.

Directions for PowerPoint 2003 Create your images: – Click on “AutoShapes” menu at the bottom of the screen. – Click on “Basic Shapes” or “Lines” and choose the shape that you want. – Draw your shapes on your slide to represent the different molecules in your pathway. – To change colors of your shapes, click on the shape and then click on down arrow next to the tipped paint can in the bottom menu. Choose your color. If you do not see the color that you want, click “More Fill Colors” and choose the color that you want.

You will see a menu drop down. – Click on “Custom Animation” – Go to the Custom Animation window on the right side of the screen. Click on “Add Effect” and “Motion Paths”. Click the motion path that you want. – Move your mouse over the green arrow until you have a single double-headed arrow ( ). Then click and move the green arrow to where on the screen you want to start the animation. – Move your mouse over the red arrow until you have a single double headed arrow. Then click and move the red arrow to where you want the animation to end. Lines Arcs

Doing a custom path animation for PowerPoint 2003 For “Custom Path”, click on the shape you want to animate. – Click on “Slide Show” menu at the top of the screen. You will see a menu drop down. – Click on “Custom Animation” – Go to the Custom Animation window on the right side of the screen. Click on “Add Effect” and “Motion Paths”. Click on “Draw Custom Path. Click on “Scribble”. – Click and drag the mouse to draw the path that you want the molecule to take. Unclick where you want the molecule to stop moving.

Narration on PowerPoint 2003 Click on “Slide Show” menu at the top of the screen. Click on “Record Narration”. Click “OK” Click on “Current Slide” and record your narration.
