MAD2053 – WEB DESIGN WEEK 1 - INTRODUCTION

CLASS DAY TUESDAY 4pm to 6pm – Lecture/In Class Discussions/ Consultations at AR0002 WEDNESDAY (Mr. Imran) 11am to 1pm – Tutorial MC11at LAB 2004 THURSDAY (Mdm. Noni) 2pm to 4pm – Tutorial MC12 at LAB 2004

SYNOPSIS This course deals with web- related concepts and techniques. Students are to have hands on practice on industry standard software to equip them with necessary skills for web design. Focus is also placed on usability, accessibility and web design process. In addition, students will learn how to publish their website 'live' so that they are able to apply this knowledge professionally.

OBJECTIVES To equip students with the required skills to be a competent web designer. To gain a greater understanding of the roles played by aesthetics and functionality in web design To instil professionalism in web design, development and management.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Distinguish the appropriate web design scripts to be used in building a website. Adhere to the acceptable web design standards to ensure quality, compatibility and user-friendliness. Assemble a working and complex website using advanced techniques in appropriate software available.

Passing grade : C Attendance requirement: 80% Tuition fees: 100% within 30 days of invoice issuance. (before exam)

CLASS RULES Come to class on time. Consultations are important. NO SURPRISES, or we will surprise you with your grades. Room consultations are on appointment basis. Original MC from a valid clinic – to be submitted the next class day. Original work only. Do not use other people’s idea, images, templates, etc.

PENALTIES Later than 15mins for class: ABSENT Late for presentation: -10% Incomplete submission: -10% As the system has changed, there will be NO ACCEPTING of LATE submissions.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING THIS TRIMESTER? As this is a 100% coursework class, you will be having: 2 small assignments 1 group project + presentation Lab exercises Quizzes

HOMEWORK FOR NEXT WEEK’S CLASS Each student is to pick ONE website of their choice. Print out screenshots of the website and bring to class next week. Preferably choose a website that is related to AD (eg. Product website, campaign website etc) Next week we will be discussing Web Design Principles, go to: Go through the module and we will have a discussion in class.
