National Science Foundation New Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) Effective for proposals submitted on or after January 25, 2016

NSF-Significant Changes - PPG No proposals accepted by Fastlane after 5 p.m. local time Certifications now include Dual Use Research of Concern Collaborators & Other Affiliations – new Single Copy Document –No longer part of biosketch –No need to identify the number of collaborators/affiliations Biosketch – Upload biosketches separately for all Senior/Key Personnel (except for Other Personnel & Equipment Proposals) Current & Pending – Upload separately for all Senior/Key Personnel; including internal funds Solicitations no longer may specify different type size, margin or spacing requirements.

NSF-Significant Changes (con’t) Single Copy Docs – PI profile deleted; include and institutional affiliation with suggested reviewer names Project Summary – Only those that include special characters can be uploaded in the Supplementary Docs section Results from Prior NSF Support –Include NSF support with start dates in the past five years –Including any current funding and no cost extensions

NSF-Significant Changes - AAG Extension requests submitted after end date must include justification Technical Reports – Annual reports due 90 days prior to current budget period end date; final reports due 120 days following expiration of grant Financial award closing 120 days following expiration of grant Public Access – All publications resulting from NSF proposals submitted after 1/25/16 and funded must be submitted in NSF-PAR system. Mentoring plans must be submitted if postdoctoral position not included in original proposal.

Phase I Effective Date: Due Dates on or After January 25, 2016 Form Set C Most research grant applications, including SBIR/STTR Institutional Training & Individual Fellowships not impacted Rigor & Transparency Reproducibility of research results Updates to Research Strategy instructions New Attachment: Authentication of Key Biological/Chemical Resources on Other Attachments Section of Other Project Information Vertebrate Animals Description of veterinary care, justification for # of animals, and methods of euthanasia eliminated (the latter only if methods are inconsistent with AVMA Guidelines)

Phase I (con’t) “Child” = Individuals under 18, not 21 Research Training – Updates to PHS 398 Form Focus on Recruitment, rather than Retention Verification that trainees only participate in exempt human subjects or vertebrate animal research or non-exempt HS with IRB approval Requirement to report on publications based on work conducted by trainee while supported by the training grant moved to JIT process
