 Using OrgSync to Target the Specific Needs of Student Organizations Damon Brown, Director of Student Activities and Involvement Dani Rossman, Coordinator of Student Organization Services Kelly Schiess, Vice President of Program Board Central Michigan University

OrgSync on Campus: History  Implemented almost four years ago to replace homegrown system  Met opposition from students  SGA Voting Snafu  Student had adapted to other systems

Implementation and Relaunch Goal: Form alliance with leaders in key organizations to assess how OrgSync can meet their needs

Students Spread the Message  Video:

Designing Our Process  Hosted open round table discussions  Listened to students concerns  Allowed students to be honest with their feelings  Develop relationships with key leaders  What problems are they experiencing?  Don’t “fix” what’s not broken  Be an OrgSync example!  Move office processes to OrgSync

Student Activities  Problem: Homecoming Student Recognition (Ambassadors)  Use a nomination form  Triggers student application  All Reviewers can access application online  Problem: Campus wide calendar of events sparse  Use OrgSync to track all Office and Student Organization Events  Weeks of Welcome 2013!  Website and Events on OrgSync

Program Board  Problem: Tracking attendance at events  Swiping to Track Attendance  Assess students who come to events through post event forms  Problem: Recruiting and Organizing Volunteers  Maintain members only portal for messaging and coordination  Create form for tracking volunteer positions  Problem: Summer communication between executive board members  Manage Discussion Board among members  Problem: Members unfamiliar with OrgSync  Create To-Do list scavenger hunt

Greek Community  Problem: Engagement at Recruitment Workshop  Create polls to engage participants during session  Encouraged more student to join portal  Problem: Tracking Attendance at Events with Mandatory Attendance by Chapter  Use separate computers/events for each chapter

Student Government Association  Problem: Attendance was disorganized  Utilized OrgSync card swipe at meetings  Still working to perfect method  Problem: Using Blackboard and OrgSync was causing confusion  Transition to one system  Problem: No means to uphold Bylaw requiring all budgets be public  Will be utilizing OrgSync Checkbooks to display all SGA budgets  Problem: Tracking Office Hours  Create discussion board and students enter hours or when they will not be there

The Job is Never Done  Response to OrgSync is changing  “I’ve used OrgSync with [Insert Group]!”  Student Perspective  Annual turnover in organizations is unavoidable  Continue to build relationships with and train new students  Begin talking about OrgSync from day 1  Identify the right students  Getting the Leader on board is important, but…  Finding your bus driver is key

Where we are now!  4040 students in a student organizations (Self Added!)  Hours Logged  Unique Users logged into OrgSync since July 1, 2012 (This includes faculty, staff, alumni, and current students.)  11,035 Events for School Year
