The Church brings the good news to pagan tribes. Ecclesial: refers to the Church

Chapter 9 - Lesson 2 5 th Century (400’s) onward:  As the Roman empire weakened, Barbarian tribes (Germanic tribes) invaded and threatened the Empire.  Barbarians were people who lacked education and culture.  The western part of the empire collapsed and life became difficult because of these invasions.  Pope Gregory the Great made treaties with the barbarians leaders and sent Christian missionaries to their homeland.

Chapter 9 - Lesson 2 Pope Gregory the Great: ( )  Patron Saint of musicians, singers, students and teachers  Re-energized the Church’s missionary work among the barbarian peoples of Northern Europe  Established canon law to govern the Church  Developed the Gregorian Sacramentary, a book that guides the celebration of the Mass and sacraments  Established Church music, the Gregorian chant  The barbarian and pagan invaders viewed the missionaries as kind and virtuous.  They adopted Christianity, and by the year 1000 AD most of Europe was Christian.
