Drivers Permit Prep -Unit 1 Driving Is Your Responsibility DAY 2 “You Will Pass” Is Our Moto!

UNIT 1– Responsibility -Day 2 Lets start by defining the word “RESPONSIBILITY”. On a sheet of paper, write your definition of responsibility Lets see what Webster Says “ Responsibility :noun, re·spon·si·bil·i·ty, 1 : the quality or state of being responsible: as a: moral, legal, or mental accountability b: reliability, trustworthiness 2 : something for which one is responsible : burden <has neglected his responsibilities

UNIT 1 – Responsibility– Day 2 (Cont’d) Responsibility from the California Vehicle Code (Statute Law for vehicles in the Sate of California) : Financial Act, according to the laws in the State of California as they relate to driving. Know that Driving is a privilege, not a right. A privilege is earned, whereas a right is something you are entitled to it. Unless take taken away by due process.

UNIT 1 - Responsibility(Cont’d) FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY is one of the most important responsibilities while being a driver. Q. What is California’s Financial Responsibility Law? A. California's compulsory financial responsibility laws require that those owning or operating motor vehicles in the state shall be financially capable of providing monetary protection to those injured or having property damaged in vehicle accidents, without regard to negligence, liability, carelessness or culpability.

UNIT 1 – Responsibility– Day 2 (Cont’d) Authority Vehicle Code § 16020 states: "...every driver and every owner of a motor vehicle shall at all times be able to establish financial responsibility pursuant to § 16021, and shall at all times carry in the vehicle evidence of the form of financial responsibility in effect for the vehicle." Vehicle Code § 16070 provides for suspension of a driver or owner who fails to show financial responsibility was in effect for a reportable accident. Vehicle Code § 16075 (c) requires that the department hold a hearing and make a determination before the effective date of the suspension.

UNIT 1 – Responsibility– Day 2 (Cont’d) Your responsibility to be properly trained and licensed to operate a motor vehicle is the operator’s RESPONSIBITY. The vehicle’s mechanical condition to operate on a public road is the operator’s RESPONSIBILITY including its title, registration, and of course insurances. You have a responsibility to the passengers, the general public to drive the vehicle safely and when carrying small children, it’s even more so. The state grants you the privilege to drive on the street and the state, courts and DMV have the jurisdiction to take that privilege away if you violate certain conditions. So treasure that privilege and don’t forget your responsibilities when driving. Ask the question ” Do I have what it takes to be a Responsible Driver?”
