Online film and TV archive resources and higher education Dr Frank Gray and Elaine Sheppard Screen Archive South East University of Brighton

Moving History working collaboratively with other Regional Film Archives and national archives creating a central point for information on the collections of the 12 archives

working collaboratively with other RFAs again developing a site devoted to a particular subject Films from the Home Front

Screen Search importance of contextual information linked to further sources of information difference between a catalogue and a resource intended as a research resource future - working with academics to develop tailored ‘packages’ for teaching and learning future - opportunities for direct input from users

Academic Use and Archives creating resources is not enough - need to meet needs and enable users importance of encouraging and stimulating new research unmediated and mediated resources the value of curated packages

Future challenges & directions Working collaboratively with other collections, bringing content together? Richer and deeper resources Web 2 - UGC - encouraging user input Focusing on the needs of users not the benefits to the archive Increasing size and quality of online video Overcoming issue of project based funding - towards sustainability
