Prof. Alan Fekete and Dr. Ying Zhou School of Information Technologies COMP5338 – Advanced Data Models Week 13: Exam Info and Assessment Summary

Outline Exam Review Assessment Feedback and Summary Unit Evaluation Reminder COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-2

Exam Information Check carefully time and location as well as your seat number Closed book exam 2 hours duration; PLUS 10 minutes of reading time Worth 60% of overall COMP5338 grade The exam has a 40% barrier COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-3

The Exam Script The script consists of  20 Multiple Choice Questions (40 points)  5 Short Answer Questions (50 points )  Each with a specific topic  Some may have multiple parts  Answer all questions in the space provided  1 integrative question (10 points)  One page discussion  Connecting technologies across the units COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-4

Exam technique Plan how you will allocate time (wisely)  Use “reading time” to check your understanding  Also to plan time allocation to questions  Plan the order of answering questions Answer everything (get the “easy marks”)  Even if you don’t know the answer, show that you have some relevant knowledge Write clearly and efficiently  Start with outline/bullet points, then expand if you have time  No need for fancy style, full sentences  Handwriting needs to be easy to read! If you need more space, use blank pages but leave a forwarding pointer in the provided space (where the marker will be looking) COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-5

Illness If you are unwell, and it seems that you won't be able to demonstrate your knowledge/skill properly, then you can request special consideration Follow the same procedure as during semester (get medical person to fill out special USyd form, hand it in within one week) Usual outcome: an alternate test, a few weeks later If you become sick during the exam itself, raise hand and speak to the invigilator The University goal is to get a fair assessment of what you have achieved COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-6

Pragmatic Advice Find the room location before the exam day itself! Come in plenty of time (don’t rely on public transport running smoothly on the day of the exam) Bring spare pens Bring water Have your student id and put it on the desk Be relax  The exam will not be a surprise  It will examine the content of the course, with emphasis similar to lectures, labs, and assignments COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-7

Quiz 2 Summary COMP5338 "Advanced Data Models" (A. Fekete & Y. Zhou)13-8

Project Summary Project implementation  All groups chose MongoDB + Neo4j Data Modelling  MongoDB  Most groups have two collections, with slight different document content  Key issue: Where to store the listening count and tag data?  Neo4j  Most groups have two nodes and various relationships  Key issue: Store tag as node or relationship?  Combined Schema  Most groups have structural data stored in Neo4j and property data in MongoDB  Key issue: Where to store “tag” data?
