Italy Today Italy’s business and culture make it an important country in Europe. Italy’s food and scenery make it a popular place where people like to visit. Tourists visit Rome for its scenery and food. People visit Rome so they can see the streets of water. In Pisa, the famous land mark is the leaning tower of Pisa.

Italian Food People in Italy love food like pizza, pasta, cannoli, and cappuccino. Italy is known for its mozzarella cheeses and parmesan gorgonzola. Some desserts are zuppa inglese and cannolis. A very popular soup is called minestrone, a thick vegetable soup Many Italian meals include pasta or risotto.

Italy’s History Hunters from Europe were the first people to settle in to the area now known as Italy. Today Italy's museums are filled with Etruscan artifacts. The people of the empire lived in peace. The last emperor of ancient Rome was overthrown. Caesar’s powerful Roman empire covered most of Europe.

Festivals and Holidays Venice has a film festival every year. People in this festival wear colorful clothes and costumes as well as masks. People also ride on parade floats. People often celebrate the end of grape season. Festivals and holidays include New Year’s Day and Labor Day.

Art and Literature People that live in Italy have painted most of the famous paintings in Italy. Leonardo da Vinci painted the last supper which is a seen in a church. The coliseum was built in the time of the Roman empire. Basilica in Rome is one of the tallest building in the world. A lot of Italy's instruments and music has given the world great rhythm.
