Unit 8.3 – Project and Assessment

Assessment Expectations (What we are looking for you to be able to do by the end of the unit): All pupils Level 3/4Most pupils Level 4/5Some pupils Level 5/6  Use keywords to search the Internet to find information.  Narrow down a search by combining key words [e.g. using AND].  Understand the need for care in framing questions when carrying out a search.  Combine information from different sources.  Recognise that poor quality information can result in the audience being misled.  Search the Internet for information, using a range of operators [e.g. using “quotes”, +, -, *].  Select only the information needed for a particular purpose.  Check the information found for accuracy, validity and bias.  Organise the information ready for processing.  Acknowledge the sources of information.  Independently use complex search terms when searching the Internet for information.  Refine and improve a search routine in the light of results obtained.  Use a range of strategies or clues to evaluate the accuracy, validity and reliability of information found.  Explain the importance of acknowledging the sources of the information found.  Describe how the information selected meets the needs of the audience and fits the purpose for which it was intended.
