This Act bans “unfair methods of competition” and “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.”

These laws “proscribe unlawful mergers and business practices in general terms, leaving courts to decide which ones are illegal based on the facts of each case.”

Senator John Sherman is responsible for this Act that originally targeted monopolies.

Authored by Henry De Lamar Clayton, this 1914 Act focuses on mergers and interlocking directorates.

Organized in 1914, this governmental entity works to prevent unfair competitive practices and administers consumer protection laws.

A set of laws, organized in sections entitled “Articles,” that are used to regulate commercial transactions.

A broken promise about a product made by either a manufacturer or seller; the promise can be either expressed or implied.

Failure to act in the best interest of another party.

Failure to live up to a contract term before the actual time of performance has arrived.

Failure to maintain a legal obligation to pay the rent and/or to maintain the property.

This Act protected the rights of the inventors of the telephone, television, computer, and iPod.

Under this Act, registered intellectual property has as its symbol a capital R within a circle.

This 1790 law protects rights to books, maps and other original materials.

Created in the Great Depression, this legislation signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt provided income to the elderly (among others).

Established in 1970, this Act created federal protection for employees from job-related death, injury and illness.

Because of this law, current minimum wage is $7.25 (in 1938 it was $0.25).
