NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Our Team … Hospital, Ambulatory and Continuum 2

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Our Team

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) 4

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Voice of Nursing Current Work Inspiration: How do we inspire our nurses to greatness?  Professional practice work will be shared with ANMs across the organization.  Nurses Week video on why staff went into nursing.  Create structure for KP nursing pin, Daisy awards, and nomination for National Extraordinary Nurse Award. 5

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Voice of Nursing Current Work Infrastructure: How do we align ourselves with the goal of fostering staff involvement and problem-solving?  Create role clarity and consistency between all entities within our system.  Create structure for ALL managers to understand and align with ANA Scope of Practice and Standards.  Educate front-line staff on PI (NQF and DQC)  Research Council  Professional practice theme of the month 6

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Voice of Nursing Current Work Education: Is the Vision, Values, and Model included in our orientation, and unit-orientations?  Query managers on national certifications. Managers interested in bringing AONE or AANC education to the medical center.  Send ANMs to MMP course from Region.  Strengthen academic relationships with CSUS to better prepare new BSN graduates with practice  Brief overview at PCSO  Education roll out to leaders then staff, including Scope, Standards and Code of Ethics for nursing 7

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Voice of Nursing Current Work Evaluation: How do we measure the enculturation of this work?  PES-NWI (The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index) pre and post  Evaluate manager and ANM turnover (pre and post)  Evaluate manager/ANM certification completion  Evaluate 2013 vs 2014 People pulse for engagement 8

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) Results So Far… All non-union nurse leaders surveyed using the PESN-WI Quarterly roll-out plan for VON education in 2015 (leaders, then staff) Research Council Performance Improvement education has started with DQCs and nurse leaders Gaining Resilience in Turbulent Times sessions for RN/MD leaders 2014 People Pulse results 9

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) What We Have Learned…. Changing staff/turnover With numerous initiatives and unplanned events, it has been very challenging to stay on track Going slow to go fast is hard to do; have to remember we are on a journey Really need to address continuum and make it useful for areas outside hospital Have regular meetings to report out on progress PES-NWI may not be the best tool to assess professional practice of nurse leaders A lot of passion around professional nursing practice 10

NATIONAL PATIENT CARE SERVICES (INTERNAL USE ONLY) (INTERNAL USE ONLY) What We Need Help With… This slide should contain questions you have for NPCS or the Voice of Nursing Community of Practice  Great organizational support  It is challenging to obtain data across the continuum, such as ADN, BSN status  Would like to see professional practice incorporated into annual nursing evaluations  Would like to see professional practice integrated into job descriptions 11
