Kyrollos V: th Coptic Pope Shenouda III: th Coptic Pope Kyrollos VI: Yousab II: Macarios III: Yoannis XIX: St. Mark: A.D. 1 st Coptic Pope Popes in the Coptic Orthodox Church:

BBirth-name: JOHN BBorn in ASIOUT, Egypt HHis mother died when he was very young, so his older brother raised him. LLiked: READING & WRITING from a young age Pope Kyrollos V

20 years old, he wanted to go to the monastery…. HHe became a monk in El- Baramous monastery where he used his TALENTS and transcribed many church books. HHe sold the books to different churches hhe used the money to buy food & clothing for the monks and help the poor. TThe monks named him “John the Scribe”

 Because he loved the church and his country so much, in 1874 he was elected to be the 112 th Pope, after St. Mark.

As pope, he accomplished many things: 1) Started a Theological School (where people study & learn about God)  Hired the 2 of the best teachers  Release of Coptic dictionary 2) He encouraged all Copts to PARTICIPATE in politics and helping the country be successful. 3) He helped Egypt stay independent from the British 4) He rejected the British request to combine the Church of England (which has some different beliefs from us) with our church

So, what does Pope Kyrollos the 5 th ’s life teach us about: “HOW CAN I CHANGE OTHERS?”

He used the TALENTS God gave him to:  TEACH people about God  E.g. By transcribing books, through sermons, and by starting a Theological school  To CARE for others  Using money to help the monastery & the poor  To HELP his country  Encouraging active participation of the people!

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” - 1 Peter 4:10

 God chose you & made you in a special way!  He gave you special GIFTS, TALENTS and characteristics, and He put those in you so that you can CHANGE yourself and also the people & the environment that surrounds you!!! Why?  So that you can SHINE HIS LOVE to others and bring GLORY to His name!

What can I do to change others?...  This week, lets choose & use a talent to start SHINING God’s light!!!
