School Improvement Plan Goals

Numeracy By June 2010, there will be a 10% increase in our students’ competency in mathematical problem solving.

Literacy By June 2010, there will be a 10% school-wide improvement in transactional writing proficiency as measured by the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT) scoring guide (content of writing, artistry of cummunication, control of conventions).

Enrichment By June 2010, 70% of our students will feel challenged to attain personal academic growth and success.

Behaviour Matrix SelfOther Environment Learning Hallways and Stairwells Have a positive attitude and remain courteous. Walk through hallways. Use stairways safely. Dress according to school policy. Respect space of others. i.e., walk to the right. Use appropriate language. Be aware that there are visitors in our school and behave respectfully. Use quiet voices. put all garbage in appropriate bins. Keep bookbags, electronic devices and personal items out of corridors. Respect walls, benches, etc. Be in hallways / stairwells during class times with permission only. Leave hallways and stairwell at appropriate times in order to arrive to class on time. Be aware that classes / meetings are often in session. Move from class to class quietly.

Minor Referrals (green slips) 1.Minor incidents (ex. teasing and eating in class) 2.Placed in your file 3.Four green slips equals a phone call home 4. Five green referrals becomes a Major PEBS referral to the office

Major Referral (blue form) 1.Major incidents (ex. physical violence and bullying). 2.Given directly to the office. 3.Dealt with immediately.

TAG Teacher Advisor Group Every student is assigned to a staff member as your Teacher Advisor. Teacher Advisors will check the PEBS folders of their group once a week. Teacher Advisors will be making contact home after four PEBS referrals.

Rewarding Positive Behaviour When a student is “caught” performing a positive behaviour, that student is rewarded with a “Gotcha.” Gotchas can be redeemed for merchandise at our Gotcha Store.

LUNCH PROGRAM

Points of Interest Five lunch monitors Teachers are NOT on duty Twenty minutes in lunch rooms One room is open for the entire lunch No eating in the hallways Students are expected to be in an assigned lunchroom or outside There are no microwaves or cafeteria

$$ COST $$ The fee is one time only… $80 – 5 days/week $64 – 4 days/week $48 – 3 days/week $32 – 2 days/week $14 – 1 day/week

Important to Note The Monitors are NOT VOLUNTEERS. The school board does not provide funding for the lunch program; thus, the program is directly dependent on the funds raised to cover the cost of the monitors. Students not in the lunch program are not permitted in the school at lunch without permission from the school.

Expectations

Dress Code

Shorts and skirts must be two inches below the length of your arm

Pants must be worn around your natural waistline

Tops must be appropriate length

Backs cannot be open on shirts

Necklines must be appropriate

Shoulder straps must be at least three fingers wide and bra straps cannot be revealed

Writing on clothing must be positive or neutral and cannot advertise illegal activity (ex. Alcohol)

Hats and non-religious headgear must be removed upon entering the building

Bandanas are not permitted in the school.

Electronic Devices

Cellphones, Blackberries, pagers, and other communication devices need to be turned off in the building.

Ipods, MP3 players, and other listening devices can only be used during lunch.

Lates

Dealing with Lates Three unexcused lates results in a phone call home and an after-school detention. Five unexcused lates results in a phone call home and an in-school suspension. After an in-school suspension, the process begins again.

Dance Requirements

Any one of the following will result in the lose of dance privileges Four or more unexcused lates since the last dance. Two major referrals (blue forms) since the last dance. ** 0ne major PEBS referral (five green forms) since the last dance. Unfinished work from any class.

Homework Club

Students with missing assignments will be scheduled to attend homework club on Mondays and Wednesdays until all work is completed.
