Curator’s Office I am a student at Emporia University, studying to be an English Teacher. I enjoy traveling to new places and finding out new things. I am a descendent of Scottish ancestry on my father’s side. Emily Hampton Note: Virtual museums were first introduced by educators at Keith Valley Middle School in Horsham, Pennsylvania. Scotland: Food and Drink Haggis is one of the most traditional dishes in Scotland. It is made mostly from sheep. A sheep’s liver, heart, windpipes, and lungs are boiled until done and then minced. This is mixed with oatmeal and then placed in the sheep’s stomach, which is re-sewn and then either boiled or baked until fully cooked. All line up for quite an interesting dish. Return to Exhibit Haggis

_Ness_Monster#Hugh_Gray.27s_ Photograph_ The first sighting of what has come to be known as the Loch Ness Monster was in 565 AD by the Irish monk Saint Columba. Many “sightings” have occurred over the years, but it was the “sighting” of 1933 that brought Nessie out in the open for the world to see. The sightseer, Hugh Gray, took photographs of what he’d seen and the speculation was on. Video footage was taken a few years later, but no solid proof has been given to whether or not Nessie is real. Return to Exhibit Nessie

of_Scotland One of the oldest national flags in existence, dating back to the Twelfth Century during the reign of William I. It is named after Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. Saint Andrew was a martyred apostle of Jesus, who was said to be crucified on a cross built cross- ways, like depicted on the flag. Return to Exhibit Saint Andrew’s Cross

New House Highland: Custom Kilts & Knitwear The Kilt has been worn by Scottish men for centuries. It is a plaid that is brought around the shoulder and body, and then belted at he waist. The earliest account of kilts is of soldiers wearing them in battle in The oldest surviving kilt is from Return to Exhibit The Kilt

raphy_of_Scotland Beyond the mainland of Scotland, the country is also has over 790 islands. It only connects with England, as Ireland is across the North Channel. The Atlantic Ocean is just along the edge of western and northern sides of the country. It contains both mountains and lowlands. Its largest city is Edinburgh, which also happens to be its capital.
