About Mrs. Marciano Background & Education Philosophy Why English? es/edaniels/

Expectations I expect you to: Be polite and show respect for adults, peers, and yourself Be prepared for class, on time, and ready to learn Try your best and take risks by asking questions and trying new things even if they seem difficult Take responsibility for your own learning by asking questions, researching their answers, participating in activities and studying Be cooperative and not disruptive You can expect me to: Treat you fairly and with respect Be prepared for class, on time, and ready to teach Create a classroom that is orderly, safe and helps you learn Help you find and use the tools you need to become successful and learn what you need to know Correct behavior that hinders learning in the classroom

Other Class Policies Tardiness Definition: Arriving after the bell without a pass Passes should be pre-signed and valid. You must sign out before leaving the classroom and sign in upon reentering. Attendance Class attendance is important. Each of you are a integral part of this class and we will miss you if you are not here. If possible, let me know ahead of time if you will be missing class. Please make an appointment to meet with me as soon as you return to review instructions and classwork or notes you may have missed. Late Work Unless absent, work is considered late if it is not handed in on its due date. Late work will NOT be accepted. Make-up Work You are responsible for picking up missed handouts and assignments when you are absent from class. You may pick these up from the daily folders in the front of the room. You have five days to make up missed work. After five days, any incomplete work will receive a grade of zero. Extra Help I will be available during activity or after-school most days. Academic Honesty Cheating in any form is unacceptable! Don’t do it, it is not worth it!

Daily Routine SAT Words of the Day  A new SAT word of the day will be posted every day. You will copy it into a fresh index card as soon as you enter the classroom each day. Then, hole punch the card and add it to your ring. On Wednesdays you will receive your last word for the current unit plus your first word for the following unit.  Every Friday you will have a vocabulary quiz on the six words from that week. Every sixth week, you will take a test on all words from that six-week period.

Daily Routine (cont.) Daily Warm-up  Each day you will have a designated warm-up. The warm-up will be posted when you enter the classroom and you are expected to start it immediately following your SAT Word of the Day. Each day is focused on improving a specific skill. While the exercises vary from week to week, the daily warm-ups are always as follows:  Monday: Critical Lens (journal)  Tuesday: Grammar or Writing mini-lesson  Wednesday: In the News (journal)  Thursday: Test prep  Friday: Brain Training
