 Most sentences in English language contain clause.  Clause – is the smallest grammatical unit that can express a complete proposition. It consists of a subject and a predicate.

 Subject – A little boy e.g. “A little boy kissed his mother.”  Predicate – goestoschooleveryday e.g. “He goes to school everyday.”

 Clauses are also divided into two groups:  Independent clause – it can stand alone as a sentence. e.g. “ I am a student.”  Dependent clause – would be awkward or incomplete alone. e.g. “I think that she likes me.”

 Sentences can contain subjects and objects. e.g. “Alex ate an apple.”  Subject – is generally the person or thing carrying out an action  Object - in a sentence is involved in an action but does not carry it out. The object comes after the verb.
