Sentence - is a linguistic unit consisting of one or more words that are grammatically linked.
Ends with (.) Ends with (!) Ends with (.) or (!) Ends with (?)
Most sentences in English language contain clause. Clause – is the smallest grammatical unit that can express a complete proposition. It consists of a subject and a predicate.
Subject – A little boy e.g. “A little boy kissed his mother.” Predicate – goestoschooleveryday e.g. “He goes to school everyday.”
Clauses are also divided into two groups: Independent clause – it can stand alone as a sentence. e.g. “ I am a student.” Dependent clause – would be awkward or incomplete alone. e.g. “I think that she likes me.”
Sentences can contain subjects and objects. e.g. “Alex ate an apple.” Subject – is generally the person or thing carrying out an action Object - in a sentence is involved in an action but does not carry it out. The object comes after the verb.
