What is the Issue? NO Classes or Support Group at Natividad Type2 Diabetes disproportionately affects Hispanics in U.S. An emerging problem among children and adolescents Hispanics twice as likely than Caucasians to be affected (CDC 2009) NO Classes or Support Group at Natividad

What are the Causes? Key Risk Factors: Genetics Family history Obesity Diet Physical activity Poverty Age Lack of health insurance (ADA 2011)

Socio-Cultural Factors: Language barriers Education level Acculturation Cultural myths Cooking traditions Eating habits Immigration status (U.S. Census 2009)

What are the Effects in Hispanics Experience more health complications and worst outcomes than other groups leading cause of lower extremity amputations, chronic irreversible kidney disease, and blindness Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death (CDC 2009)
