Paper Format: 1 st page Upper left corner of 1 st page list- Name Instructor’s name Course Date Center the paper’s title Do not underline, italicize, or bold Example: This is the Name of my Paper

In- text Citation When using information and ideas from a source, the source must be CITED!!! Quotation- the exact words from a text/ source Paraphrase- a restatement of a text/ source MLA Citation uses the author-page method in parenthesis: (Author page#) Example: (Hansberry 15) If the author is mentioned then only the page # is needed. Example: Lorraine Hansberry writes “……” (15). The complete reference should appear on your Works Cited page. Hansberry, Lorraine. A Raisin in the Sun. New York: Random House, Print.

In-text Citation Example

In-text Citation- Cont… Sources with No Known Author- use the title of the text. (“Impact of Global Warming” 6) “The Impact of Global Warming in North America.” GLOBAL WARMING: Early Signs Web. 23 Mar Authors with Same Last Names- provide both authors' first initials (or even the authors' full name if different authors share initials) in your citation (A. Miller 12) (R. Miller 45)

In-text Citation- Cont… Multiple Works by the Same Author- include the author’s name and a shortened title for the particular work from which you are quoting to distinguish it from the others. Shortened title includes the first one or two words from the title (Hughes, “A Dream Deferred” stanza 3 line 6) (Hughes, “Let America” stanza 5 line 2)

Work Cited Alphabetized list of work that is cited in the text. Entries are listed alphabetically by the author's last name or title (if author’s name is not present) Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your research paper. Label the page Works Cited and center the words Works Cited at the top of the page. Work Cited Double space all citations. Indent the second and subsequent lines of citations five spaces so that you create a hanging indent.

Research and Opinions Assignment Directions-- Find 2 factual statements about your topic. Create a 6-8 sentence paragraph for that uses the factual statements and statements of your opinion about your topic. Create a Work Cited of source. Turn in the following: One 6-8 sentence paragraph with citation Work Cited list of sources 2 Facts as stated in the source

Research and Opinions Example: Smallpox, an infectious disease caused by either Variola major and Variola minor, two virus variants (Ryan 525), had a large effect on Early America. The New World was filled with many problems and strife, yet an outbreak of smallpox was destructive to the Native American, African, and European populations in Early America. Statistics estimates that 80–90% of the Native American populations died during smallpox epidemics (Aufderheide 205). After 1560, the African slave trade brought a wave of smallpox, while European exploration continued to speard this deadly disease around the world (Aufderheide 205).
