Agriculture Teachers Wear Many Hats . . .

Selected Characteristics of Effective Teachers (Adapted from Rosenshine & Furst, 1971)

Clarity Present information in a clear and understandable fashion --”Begin with the end in mind” --Plan, use, and teach toward objectives

Variability Use a variety of methods and media --Be creative and innovative --“Spice it Up”

Enthusiasm Be enthusiastic when presenting material and information -- Students of teachers who behave enthusiastically perform better

Task Orientation Conduct your classroom and labs in a “businesslike” manner --Daily, systematic classroom and laboratory instruction is a must!!

Give Students the Opportunity to Learn Provide time and opportunity for students to practice what they are learning --“Learning to Do, Doing to Learn” --Again, be guided by the objectives of the lesson

“To teach is to learn twice.” Joseph Joubert
