Immigration Essay Help Me! Where do I start?!?!

1. Make sure that your essay stays on topic and addresses the question.

As you begin writing, decide which factors you think are most significant to the immigrant experience. – Think about your SPICE categories – If you aren’t sure which three factors your want to talk about, you can always brainstorm all the materials for others first. Map out your essay on a graphic organizer or in notes. Make sure you have a clear idea of where you are heading and how you will get there.

2. Cite all of your sources.

Credit Where Credit is Due Don’t accidentally plagiarize! – Paraphrase – Cite your direct quotes – When in doubt, cite it! If you use an online citation generator, double check to make sure it is accurate. – Citation Machine Citation Machine – Purdue Owl (has examples of common citation styles) Purdue Owl

Using Sources You may use sources like Wikipedia for basic research, but you need to branch out and cite information from other places. Try a variety of keywords in Google if you are having trouble (more academic terms usually get you better results). There are several suggestions on my website of places you can look at if you are having trouble.

3. Fully explain your reasoning and support your claims.

Support your Claims For each of your factors you have selected as major influences on immigration, make sure you fully explain and justify why you believe they are important. – Think about our SPICE categories when your form your thesis and structure your essay, then narrow your focus from there. Explain why your primary sources support your points as well.

Get to work!
