DIVERSITY THE SPICE OF LIFE

WHat is diversity? the condition of having or being composed of differing elements :  variety; especially :  the inclusion of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization -Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Everyone is different. Think about how boring this world would be if we were all the same.

Racial Diversity It is our responsibility to instill tolerance and appreciation for all races in our young children. Many people have fought for racial equality and we have come too far to stand for intolerance on any level. It does not matter what our skin color is, we are all the same on the inside. This world is not ours to judge.

Cultural Diversity The cultural variety and cultural differences that exist in the world, a society, or an institution.-Online Dictionary Cultural diversity plays an important role in our society. Differences in viewpoint and culture are to be cherished and appreciated rather than judged and feared. Students should share stories about their culture, home life, and beliefs. This gives them the opportunity to see a culture or environment different than theirs and respect it.

Different but the same.

LGBTQ Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Everyone has the right to be loved and respected. It does not matter what gender or how we identify ourselves, this does not take away from the fact that we all need a supporting and understanding environment. Kids that have someone or somewhere to turn to are less likely to harm themselves or make rash decisions. Most young people report an awareness to their sexual orientation at around the age of 10. This shows the importance of teaching tolerance and acceptance at a young age is instrumental. Kids need to be able to build a positive self image of themselves early on. They need to know that it is perfectly okay to be who you are.

Many people have fought for equal rights for everyone Many people have fought for equal rights for everyone. In today’s world we should be able to see past the color of someone’s skin, their religion, who they love. We need to be able to be ourselves and respect everyone.

Diversity is all around us. It is important for children to learn at a young age to respect everyone, regardless of their age, color, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status. Our world is made up of different groups, languages, religions and societies. We need to embrace diversity and see how we can use it positively.
