TravelSmart Campaign Redcliffe Primary School

Parent Pledge/Map Parents were encouraged to pledge 3 TravelSmart actions listed in the pledge, ranging from kiss and drive to walking with your child to school. This was a copy for them to keep. Inside the pledge pamphlet is a map of the school community which focuses in on streets within a 1km radius of the school and highlights the safe routes, shared paths, crossings and recommended drop off points.

Pledge sign The pledge sign is located in the entrance way as people access the classroom area of the school. Parents were invited to the launch of the TravelSmart campaign to sign the pledge board in the area of their chosen actions. The parents who attended the launch received coffee vouchers for their support. Around 15 parents so far have signed this.

Map Sign Alongside the pledge sign is a blown up map like the one in the pamphlet, for people to view when they walk into school. This will enable parents and students to visibly recognise the safe walking and cycle routes in the school.

Bumper Sticker This was sent home to all families at the school to support the 40km rule around the school.

Kiss and Drive Sign This A-frame sign was created to remind parents daily to kiss and drive in the designated area.

Symbols on paths Safe routes were marked out around the school on paths for students to follow. Also new shared path symbols were updated along with some stop signs at major crossings to encourage children to stop and look.

TravelSmart Campaign Launch Was held at a whole school assembly on 29 th July The TravelSmart students presented the pledge actions to parents, students, teachers and the mayor of Belmont, Glenys Godfrey.

Working towards Silver Level Walking School Bus – our TravelSmart parent representative is currently organising a team to begin a trail run. A safe route has already been established. The team will be attending the WSB training in the next couple of weeks. Walk to School Day – we will be encouraging all children to participate in this event. Students involved will receive breakfast on the morning. We will be incorporating the badge making machine and using the classroom rewards package as prizes.
