Get ready to ShakeOut! 9:15am, 15 October 2015

During this lecture/tutorial or staff meeting, we will be conducting an exercise drill. When you see the following image, it is time to: Drop, Cover and Hold. It’s almost time to ShakeOut

Massey University encourages everyone to take part in this earthquake drill as a way of becoming better prepared to respond to an earthquake; however, participation is not compulsory. If you are not comfortable taking part in this earthquake drill for any reason, you may choose not to, and may leave the room before the drill which take place at 9.15am. About ShakeOut at Massey

Events – including fire or earthquake drills – may trigger unexpectedly strong emotions in some people, even if they were not directly affected by the Christchurch earthquakes. These reactions are a completely normal response to an abnormal event! If you would like support to deal with any emotions or experiences you may have, please contact one of the Massey’s support services: Student Health & Counselling Services Chaplaincy/Religious Services EAP (for Staff only) Support services

The following videos show you how to drop, cover and hold in the event of an earthquake: Drop, cover, hold: The university experience (4:42min)cover What is Drop, Cover, Hold?

Take a photo of your group doing - drop, cover and hold. Get permission first from people in the photo, now to: Wellington Campus Manawatu Campus Albany Campus Take a photo

Have you and your family or flatmates: a household emergency plan? a supply of emergency food and survival items agreed on a place to meet if you couldn’t contact anyone by phone, or other methods? agreed who would pick up your kids from school (if applicable)? considered pets and how to look after them in an emergency? met your neighbours Now consider what you would do next

Information and tips on how to get better prepared for an emergency is available here: The Massey website and Facebook page will be the key places to find information in an emergency: Emergency preparedness at Massey
