SIP Overload Design Team Status Jonathan Rosenberg Cisco
Background draft-ietf-sipping-overload-reqs defined overload problem and proposed simulation model to study Draft-hilt-sipping-overload proposed some mechanisms Lots of open questions –What is a suitable overload control method? –What type of feedback is required? –How to achieve fairness? –What is the format of the feedback? –What granularity is required? Became clear a coordinated design team was needed
Design Team January 2007, design team formed, led by Jonathan Team composed of experts in this area, many of which are not IETF regulars: Carolyn Johnson, AT&T Daryl Malas, Level3 Eric Noel, AT&T Jonathan Rosenberg, Cisco Martin Dolly, AT&T Volker Hilt, Bell Labs/Alcatel- Lucent Mary Barnes, Nortel Nick Stewart, BT Tadeusz Drwiega, Nortel Paul Wilson, Nortel Ping Wu, Nortel Charles Shen, Columbia U. Henning Schulzrinne, Columbia U.
Design Team Status Design team meeting semi-regularly since January Design team doing its work over a dedicated mail alias and collaboration site Team has agreed on a simplified simulation model Team currently running simulations to demonstrate the problem within this model
Design Team Goals Begin simulation of possible solutions in late March Explore a few key solutions with more in-depth simulations through April/May Conclude on a recommended algorithm in June Submit design team recommendation for WG review for July IETF Possibly publish simulation results motivating the choices as an informational document
