Learning Environments Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – Science classrooms have not been upgraded in many years – Some classrooms are crowded because of larger classes and more space being needed Proposed Solution – The new science classrooms would be modern and up to date – The new classrooms in the existing high school gym would be larger and the furniture would support the increased use of technology

Learning Environments Elementary Current Challenges – Special Education students are receiving some services in hallways and cafeteria – Library space is limited due to computers – Music classroom causes and experiences a lot of noise problems Proposed Solution – Multipurpose instructional spaces and additional classrooms would allow space for personalized instruction – New computer classroom would free up space in the library – Renovations to the current music room would improve acoustics in and out of the room

Safety and Security - Elementary Current Challenges – Area serving as primary storm shelter holds 1/3 of students and staff – Remaining students take shelter in hallway or classrooms with windows Proposed Solution – Three new multipurpose instructional spaces/storm shelter areas will be added to North side of the gym that will be large enough for all students and staff

Safety and Security – Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – Storm shelter space in the High School is adjacent to chemical storage – Storm shelter space in Junior High has some exposure to glass – Rigging in auditorium is original to building and causes concern Proposed Solution – Some spaces in new Activity Center will be designed as Storm Shelters – Existing Boys Locker Rooms will be renovated to serve as Storm Shelters – Rigging in auditorium and curtains will be replaced

Safety and Security – Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – The size and design of current science classrooms do not meet recommended specifications for science classrooms and science labs – Some safety features in the current science labs are poorly designed Proposed Solution – The new science classrooms, labs, and storage areas would meet recommended specifications – The safety features in the new science labs would be properly designed and installed

Safety and Security – Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – High School Gymnasium is unsafe for athletes and patrons – Student athletes are practicing late in the evening and early in the morning due to lack of usable gym space for practices Proposed Solution – New Activity Center that is safer for athletes and patrons – New Activity Center includes expanded practice areas which will eliminate the need for early and late practices after school

Improved Infrastructure Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – Plumbing in High School is close to 80 years old – Plumbing in Junior High is over 50 years old – Restrooms for the stadium and other events are insufficient Proposed Solution – Plumbing in the High School will be replaced – Restrooms throughout the building will be updated – New, larger restrooms for the stadium and Activity Center will be added

Improved Infrastructure Junior/Senior High Current Challenges – Windows in the High School are not energy efficient – Wireless infrastructure will not support upcoming Technology Initiative – Lack of adequate drainage is causing problems in basement Proposed Solution – The windows which are the least efficient will be replaced – Wireless infrastructure and electrical service will be updated – Groundwater control and drainage will be improved

Activity Center Benefits Improved indoor/outdoor restrooms to serve Homer Hanson Stadium, Activity Center, Cafeteria, and the school New concessions area to serve Homer Hanson Stadium and the Activity Center Walking track that can be used by members of the community

Activity Center Benefits Expanded locker rooms facilities for girls Expanded wrestling room Expanded weight room Expanded storage Three multipurpose classrooms that can serve a variety of purposes

Activity Center Benefits Location of the Activity Center will – make it easier to supervise ballgames and events – make a better fan experience for our patrons and guests – align with future plans to address parking Design of the Activity Center will – allow us to host larger events including wrestling and basketball tournaments

Other Benefits Increased area for Art that is also located inside the main building reducing the number of students that have to leave the building during the day to attend class Creation of a Special Education Suite to better serve students Creation of a Drama Storage Area to benefit our school and community

Future Plans Depend on many factors – Community Growth – Increase in Assessed Valuation – Final Cost of this Project – Timing – Wrap Around Project with no tax increase New Agriculture Education Facility connected to Main Building Parking Areas to South of Activity Center Improvements to Auditorium

Finance Information $26.4 Million projected cost 30 year bonds mill increase – $100,000 home – $ per year or $14.22 per month – *160 acres dryland – approx $150 per year or $12.47 per month
