Earth Moon Sun

Not to scale!

WARNING If you look directly at the Sun, even briefly, without wearing solar viewers, you will permanently damage your vision. (Sunglasses give no protection.) Even during the eclipse, the bright part of the Sun will be just as bright as usual.

20 th March 2015 Solar Eclipse You cannot look directly at the Sun without “eclipse glasses”. Fallibroome branded! £1.50 from Student Services or via WisePay.

Apart from just watching... Make a pin hole camera to observe with. Or use a kitchen colander...! Project a large image of the Sun onto card using binoculars (DO NOT LOOK THROUGH THEM!) Look for Sun Spots on the surface of the Sun Measure and chart the light intensity throughout the eclipse Measure and chart the temperature before, during and after the eclipse Measure and chart the radioactivity in the direction of the Sun – the Moon should block some cosmic rays Precisely time the eclipse (to the second) and calculate the distance to the Sun – research how!
