Linking Questions 2 Answers

Question 1 Paragraph 3 acts as a link sentence. 1 “Especially since the status updates” refers back to the previous paragraph which was discussing the concept of Twitter. “Who types without spaces?” introduces the subject of the next paragraph, which is the writer’s obsession with language and grammar.2

Question 2 ‘This ever more draconian approach’ refers back to the harsh measures which are to be taken against immigrants mentioned in the first paragraph. The ‘number of misconceptions’ are illustrated in the rest of the paragraph where it talks about the mistakes that people make in their assumptions. 2

Question 3 The word “but” signals a change “the resource question” links back to the idea of health spending for the elderly “only half the story” introduces the new idea about other problems surrounding the elderly in society.
