Starting out!

Contents! Go to - finding a squad Go to - tryouts Go to – What you do Go to – basic moves Go to – Competition Go to – Uniform

When finding a squad its good to look up different places on the internet, its also good to find places that are in your area. Talk to your friends because if any of them already do cheerleading you can always join there squad or if they don’t already do it you can join with your friends so your not alone.

Tryouts Depending on which squad you join there can be two different types of tryouts. The first one is the end of year tryouts, this is when you come, they test your skills and they put you in a skill appropriate level. The next type of tryout is the tryout lesson, this is when you come and join in with one of the practises and see if you like it, you can go to these tryout lessons any time of the year

What do you do? There are 4 different sections of cheerleading, The first section is tumbling, tumbling is things like cartwheels, round off, front walk overs and more. The next section is stunting, this is where people do pyramids and lifts. Another section is the routine section, this is to do with dance routines. The last section is jumps, this includes things like pikes and straddles.

Basic moves When starting out you don’t need to know that many moves as you will learn along the way, but the basic moves taught is a cartwheel, round off, bridge, front walk over, pike, straddle and tuck.

Competition When doing cheerleading as a competitive sport you do 4 competitions they are Winterfest, battles, state and nationals.

Uniform! Most squads have uniforms. The uniform is normally a long or short sleeve shirt with a skirt. Normally some part of there uniform has there teams name on it. The main part of the uniform would probably have to be the bow which is worn in the cheerleaders hair.
