Getting started Go to Clink on the top link on the left that reads Current Users: Sign in Click on Create a Personal ID To create your account use this information: Username – mpasdnoodle Password – research You will be prompted to enter your own personal information. You will get to create your own username and password. WRITE THIS INFORMATION DOWN Once you have created your own username and password, I will not have access to this information. Therefore, if you forget your username or password, you will have to redo all the work that you have already finished. This is why it is important to write everything down.

I’ve created my account, now what? After you’ve registered, you now need to create a list. On the noodle page, look for the link on the right that reads, Create a New List and click on it. Under list style click on MLA starter. In the box beside description type Author Research Paper Click create list.

Creating your Works Cited list. Now that your account is set up, you need to find sources. There is nothing else for you to do in Noodle until you find your sources. After you have made a source selection, you will need to click on the bibliography link at the top. You will be asked to choose from a works cited list. From the drop down box, choose the link that best describes what you are citing and follow the prompts. If you need help, just ask.

List view

Print this list. After you have all of your sources listed, print this page. To print source list on Noodle tools: Click on Bibliography Click on Save as Word Document Click on Export and Print Save Document in file

Creating your note cards When you are ready to begin your note cards, click on the note cards link at the top of the noodle page. Each note card will be divided into three parts: 1. Cut-and-paste Capture author’s words, images Get quotes and attribution right Mark-up the quote to understand the author’s idea 2. Paraphrase or summarize Explain it to yourself Tag concepts and facts Add reminders and tasks 3. My ideas Prompts for original thinking Analyze how it fits your research Ask questions, evaluate ideas List “to do” plan

Cut-and-paste first Author’s image Author’s words

You’ll get quotes and attribution right!

Annotating helps you understand

Explain it to yourself* *Using words that you understand

What do you think? I wonder…? “To do” next

Tagging your note cards Remember, for this research project there are three specific areas you are to address. Use these as your tags. Author’s Background Author’s Culture and Historical Time Period Literary Analysis

Add the main idea last

Add tags now…or later It’s easier to add tags when you know more.

You can always go back to the source Sometimes rereading clears up questions

Use your tabletop to organize notes Your notes are waiting here

Sort notes however you like! Drag notes

Make piles Group notes that you feel belong together

Label your notes with visual cues Add reminders, colors and tags

Print your note cards After you have finished organizing all 20 of your note cards, print them out. Follow the same steps you did when printing the bibliography.
