Thomas Hardy( ) Life Works Tess of the D'Urbervilles

Life is the foremost English regional novelist and a major Victorian poet. His realistic novels show the tragic ironies of characters struggling against the passions of human nature and forces of a hostile world; Hardy was born in Southwest England near Dorchester, a region he called Wessex in his novels

After attending private school at Dorchester, Hardy was apprenticed to an architect, and later he went to London to study Gothic architecture. Despite the promise he showed in this field, Hardy drifted toward a career in literature. Hardy died of a cold on January 11,1928. His ashes rest in the Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey, and his heart lies in the earth at Stinsford near Dorchester
