A New Direction Lead in –The Hebrew writer made the bold assertion in 2:17 that Jesus was a high priest –On what grounds could he say Jesus was a high priest? Was this something pulled out of thin air? Was it just a baseless unsubstantiated claim? All Jewish priests were to come from the tribe of Levi But therein lied the problem, Jesus was from the tribe of Judah –Answer = Ps. 110:4 “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek”

The New Song Heb. 8:1-6 –There was a pattern given by God –God spoke to Moses on Mt. Sinai and told him how to build the tabernacle Nothing was there by chance! Nothing was there by accident! God gave the dimensions for the tabernacle, he told him what materials they were to use, and in what order all these things were to be placed in –Did you ever realize the bulk of the Book of Exodus concerns the tabernacle? Ex !!! Here, in Heb. 8, we begin to see why God wanted it built this way!

The New Song Heb. 8:7-13 –Jer. 31 –Jeremiah in his day (~600 B.C.) was saying the Old Law would be retired soon Jeremiah said a New Covenant was promised and Jesus brought in that New Covenant at the cross –8:10-12, what’s the point? A little baby in the Jewish kingdom could not have the law of God in his mind and heart In Christ’s kingdom it is different! The only babe admitted is a “babe in Christ”

The New Song Heb. 9:16-17 –This answers those who claim we can be saved like the thief on the cross (Truth be told, I don’t know of anyone who really wants to be saved like the thief on the cross) It’s possible the thief was baptized, after all he knew something about the kingdom! But even if he weren’t baptized it is immaterial! –He didn’t have to be baptized for the same reason David, Moses, and Adam didn’t have to be baptized. –He lived under a different law!
