Rule Summary Forests and districts shall designate those roads, trails, and areas open to motor vehicle use by vehicle class, time of year. Designated roads, trails, and areas shall be identified on a motor vehicle use map. Rule Summary Once the map is published, motor vehicle use inconsistent with designations is prohibited.

The Situation Today 287,000 miles of NFS road open to motor vehicle use. 33,000 miles of NFS trail open to motor vehicle use. Money Forest Service budget is tight – we can’t do it alone. Travel planning will require substantial effort – the agency will have to prioritize work to get travel planning done.
