Parts of the Flower

Stamen Male part of the flower. It is the whole part that is made up of the filament and anther. Produces pollen. Stamen

Anther Part of the stamen that produces and contains pollen. On top of a long stalk that looks like a fine hair. Anther

Filament The anther sits on top of this fine hair- like stalk, the filament. Filament

Pistil Female part of the flower. It is the whole part, made up of the stigma, style, and ovary. Pistil

Stigma Part of the pistil, sticky bulb that you see in the center of the flowers. Receives the pollen grains. Pollen germinates here. Stigma

Style Another female part of the flower. The stigma sits on top of this long stalk. Style

Ovary Usually at the bottom of the flower Holds the seeds inside and turns into the fruit that we eat. The receptacle is where the bottom point the ovaries are housed. Ovary

Ovule The part of the ovary that becomes the seeds. Ovules are inside the ovary.

Petal The colorful, often bright part of the flower. Attract pollinators and are usually the reason why we buy and enjoy flowers. Petal

Sepal The parts that look like little green leaves that cover the outside of a flower bud to protect the flower before it opens. Sepal
