San Diego State University Chapter Established 2007

About EWB Our Vision Our vision is a world in which the communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs, and that our members have enriched global perspectives through the innovative professional educational opportunities that the EWB-USA program provides. JOIN THE MOVEMENT "ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS USA REDEFINED MY CONCEPT OF ENGINEERING, SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND HAS CHANGED MY OUTLOOK OF THE WORLD AND MY ROLE IN IT." - RAHUL MITRA

About EWB Our Mission EWB-USA supports community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders. Kids of Tejeras and EWB-SDSU Honduras Travel Team, 2011

Past EWB-SDSU Projects Esperanza International Project > Tijuana, Mexico Colonia De San Bernardo Project > Tijuana, Mexico San Jose de la Zorra / Necua > Ensenada, Mexico

Water Treatment for Tejeras, Honduras Water Resource and Treatment for communities in the Darien, Panama Sponsored by:

Current Project: EWB-SDSU has made two assessment trips to Tejeras where we made great relationships with the community. Over 50 door-to-door health surveys were conducted throughout the community. Most common issues found include gastrointestinal irritation when members drank the water and there were even instances of skin irritation. We held multiple meetings with community leaders and members, some of whom were passionate about helping their community improve their water quality.

Field observations and assessment in Tejeras allowed the Honduras Project Team to develop improved designs of the community’s current water system. Unfortunately, the CSU system was obligated to ban all student organizations from traveling to Honduras after the US Department of State declared it to be a High Risk for travellers.

EWB-SDSU has maintained a good relationship and communication with the community while we have spent the past year finding an alternative solution. We are currently partnering with The Moxie Foundation, founded by Irwin Zahn, to bring community members from Tejeras to San Diego to help train them to be able to implement the improvements on their water system together, as a community.

Current Project: Clean Water for the Darien, Panama This past year, EWB-SDSU has partnered with Fundacion Por Los Ninos de Darien to help communities gain access to more, cleaner drinking water year-round. The travel team assessed 4 different schools in communities without clean drinking water year-round. First Panama Project meeting tonight!! Help us build a project team!
