Practice Short Answer Question In this class you will have 3 (!) kinds of essays: Long Essay Document Based Question Short Essay – 1 paragraph. Based usually on documents. This unit we will begin to practice Short Essays and begin to look at documents. A document can be a short paragraph from a speech, letter, conversation, book etc. It can also be visual, like a painting. ASSIGNMENT #2 WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO THE RENAISSANCE, REVIEW YOUR HW AND GET YOU ACQUAINTED WITH SHORT ESSAY.

From your HW… Humanism Related: individualism – focus on the importance and uniqueness of the individual. Secularism – focus on life on earth/the here and now. Petrarch…other humanists? Christine de Pisan New themes in art? “Patronage” and monarchs as patrons?

This class – class vs. home There is a lot to know in AP European History. We will clarify main ideas in class, use important and key examples. However, a key piece of learning and doing AP Euro is your work at home. There will be things in the textbook that we will not discuss in depth in class. It is important to be specific, use your HW questions and key terms.

ANALYZE YOUR RENAISSANCE PAINTING Overview – what is this a picture of? Parts – What things do you see in the painting (this is a list) Title: What is the title? Who painted it? When? (If you know) Interrelationships: What is going on? How do the things in the painting interact? Conclusion: What are some general things we learn from this painting? How do you connect it with the artistic trends of the time period? How do you connect it with the social and intellectual trends?
