National Sustainability Conference Pathways to Sustainability: Together we can Eliminate Child Labour in Agriculture Objectives & Methodology

Conference Objectives 1. Make an assessment of the situation of child labour in the agriculture sector on the basis of available research data and information as captured in the various presentations by stakeholders Such assessment is essential for reviewing strategies and setting benchmarks for future courses of action

Conference Objectives 2. Share strategic approaches and good practices in addressing child labour in agriculture and build consensus on the prioritization of actions towards the elimination of worst forms of child labour in agriculture as well as on the questions of safe work for youth in agriculture and how best these initiatives can be carried forward

Conference Objectives 3.Strategize on ways to promote public-private partnership (PPP) in fighting child labour in agriculture along with the acceleration of the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) to combat child labour

Conference Objectives 4. Figure out and agree on strategies to promote district-level coordination and integrate child labour in the national child protection systems, in the context of the NAP implementation process

Conference Objectives. 5. Develop an outcome document that will guide future courses of action on child labour by sector and actors/stakeholders, including the private sector, and mobilize resources, in the context of the NAP framework.

The three pillars 1.The nature and complexity of child labour and hazardous work in agriculture in Tanzania. Specific presentations highlighting the situation of child labour in agriculture in Tanzania experiences and good practices

The three pillars 1. Decentralization and vertical integration of district/regional structures and institutions with the national level Referral systems and enforcement; child labour monitoring at the district and community levels

The three pillars 1. Social Protection and child protection. Successes and challenges innattaining children survival rights in Tanzania, including rights to nutrition, shelter, adequate living standards and access to medical services

Methodology A participatory methodology to:  Engage of participants to actively contribute ideas and experiences during plenary & panel sessions  Encourage the sharing research data and information as well as “good practices” by partners and stakeholders on child labour interventions

Methodology contd…...  Develop and deliver presentations on the thematic and sub-thematic subjects of the conference  Engage of all key actors including government, trade unions, employers, non-state actors, private sector, as well as children in the deliberations and discussions of the conference.
