Explore strategies for integrating Children’s Engineering into the existing curriculum. 1.Promotes –Virginia Standards of Learning mastery –National & Virginia's STEM goals –Critical and creative thinking –Problem solving & Hands-on Learning –Decision making –Cooperative learning skills –Differentiated instruction –Motivated and self-confident learners 2.Promotes Teacher and Maritime Industry collaboration –Technology Education Service, Virginia Department of Education

1.Reinforce the Virginia Standards of Learning through hands-on designing, building, and problem solving activities. 2.Engineering Design and Technology In-Service Sessions 3.Developing Technological Literacy at the Elementary Level Science – Technology - Engineering - Math

1.Explore how people create use, and control technology 2.Apply knowledge in mathematics, science, English, Art, History and Social Studies in solving problems associated with technology 3.Use tools and materials to explore personal interest with technology 4.Exhibit self-confidence through the use of technology Workshop highlights will focus on experiences that enable children to:

1.Review, engage teachers and students with objectives 2.Prep materials per teams: no limit on teams 3.Divide student activities into phases: Fun and excitement of design, build & testing a boat design Links boat terms and activity to science, technology, engineering and math Excitement of State-Wide Competition Building School Competition

1.Each school should submit the team with the highest number of cans 2.Children’s Engineering Convention will choose the top three teams and invite them and teacher to Richmond next February 3.Teams may build a fresh boat and make improvements for February Finals 4.One state-wide winner, 2 nd and 3 rd Place Competition is state-wide
