Then, create a word web around immigration where you write all of the words that you associate with immigration. Option B: You may also draw the words that come to mind when you think about immigration.

IMMIGRATION! “Turn to page 88 and let’s read “Why People Immigrate” in small groups. While you are in small groups, you are to: define the word immigrant and copy it in your notes. If you want to work ahead of the class, you may re-read and copy down reasons why people immigrate.

Key Point #1: An immigrant is a person who moves from one country to another. Immigration is the act of moving from one country to another.

“What factors contribute to a person’s decision to immigrate?”

KEYPOINT #2: A push factor is a reason why immigrants are pushed away from their original country.  something is pushing them away, making them want to leave.

KEYPOINT #3 : A pull factor is any reason that pulls someone to another country.
