Description This activity is a fun way for Intermediate students to make connections to the world. This activity should be used when discussing Text to Self, Text to Text and Text to World Connections. Instructions: Ask students: “Can you think of a symbol or logo that everyone in this classroom would know” (complete a think, pair, share) Ask: “why does everyone seem to know these symbols?” (think, pair, share) Display the list of common logos on the board and have students guess all the icons Challenge: Which student can get guess all the logos Then, have students create their own modern alphabet on the computer using their full name or another creative word connecting to your literacy unit– limit the logos from the previous activity so they are forced to find their own Students who finish early, could create their own full modern alphabet Students can then justify their choices and explain how these logos connect to our world and themselves. Extension: Discuss the idea of globalization
