1.Jealousy is the most common cause of dating violence. 2. Controlling a person is a form of emotional abuse. 3. Examples of verbal abuse can include name calling, insults or threats. 4. Most couples do disagree or argue. However, it’s important to resolve the conflict in a healthy way-without resorting to violence 5. Making up after there has been emotional abuse or physical violence is a typical pattern in abusive relationships.

6. A person never deserves to be hit or slapped. 7. Hitting, yelling or threatening is not normal behavior. 8. You may not always hear about boys being abused, because they are not as likely to report being abused by girls, even when they are badly hurt. 9. Being drunk or under the influence increases the chances of being victimized. It also increases the chances that a person may become violent. 10. The person who is being abused is never at fault. Dating abuse: the use of abusive behaviors by a person to harm, threaten, intimidate or control a current or former dating partner.

Physical abuse: any intentional unwanted contact with the victim’s body by either the perpetrator or an object within the perpetrator’s control, regardless of whether such contact causes pain or injuries to the victim.

Emotional abuse: The intentional infliction of mental or emotional distress by threat, coercion, stalking, humiliation, or unwanted other verbal or nonverbal conduct.

Sexual abuse: any sexual behavior or contact by the perpetrator that is unwanted by the victim and/or interferes with the victim’s ability to consent to or control the circumstances of sexual behavior.
