Powered by Warm Water Pool User Survey

What will the community lose without a warm water pool? –To build a greater understanding of pool users, their needs, how they discovered the pool and the benefits derived by its use, The Sanitas Project administered a survey between June 5 and June 28, –One hundred and fifty-nine pool users responded to the on line survey – results are included here.

Powered by Key Points from Pool Users’ Survey Although almost 70% of survey respondents are 60 and older, pool user ages range from 10 years to 85. Uses are typically age-related – arthritis and pain for the elderly, rehab for the mid 20 to 60 year olds, significant use by autistic youth population. About 65% of pool use is a result of a medically related referral – part of the continuum of care model promoted by BCH. The majority of referrals by specialty area can be viewed in 4 Tiers Tier 1: GP/PCP, Ortho/spine Tier 2: Ortho/spine/neurology Tier 3: Pain management/physical therapy Tier 4: Autism-specific counselors, physicians, physical therapists

Powered by Key Points from Pool Users Survey Pool use results in a reduction of pain medication for 36% of users. 40% of respondents have been using the pool for more than 5 years. Almost 70% of respondents do not believe there is an alternative to the Mapleton Pool that will meet their needs – The combination of depth, temperature, and size makes Mapleton Pool the only pool in Boulder County that meets the criteria of the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Association Warm Water Guidelines.

Powered by Almost 40% of pool users come from outside the City of Boulder because their needs cannot be met by other pools in the Boulder County area Louisville/Longmont Larimer Broomfield Denver, CO Brush Westminster But why travel this far? No other pool in area that meets my needs I need a warm pool with a deep end No other pool in Boulder County with depth Other pools are too cold

Powered by Due to its unique combination of the environment, therapists and the warm and deep water, the Mapleton Pool is the only pool in Boulder County that meets the needs of a diverse population Autism My son has autism with sensory needs. The warm water help to calm him and he is more able to focus on his lesson. The environment is calm as well so he is able to stay on task with his teacher. He has learn so much basic safety skill including breathing, floating, being careful in water. My son has autism and likes the warm water at Mapleton. I take my 8 year old son who has autism for safety swim lessons. Water safety lessons for my son on autism spectrum. My son has special needs and it is an ideal environment for my son. Quality of Life and Safety I find the views of the Flatirons, lilac bushes, birds and mammals refreshing and inspiring while exercising my body the only way I can. I teach for BCH to help others have quality of life. This is the best therapy for my mom. We had some issues with some PTs. She has balance problems so the pool is the safest form of exercise, and helps relax her muscles.

Powered by Due to its unique combination of the environment, therapists and the warm and deep water, the Mapleton Pool is the only pool in Boulder County that meets the needs of a diverse population Trainers and Therapists I work with people who are challenged by disability and it illness I teach special needs children ages 5-20 years old, also rehab of my own hip replacement. Manage Pain Manage physical issues/pain and low-impact exercise I swim laps there. I am a former sprint triathlete The only exercise I can do without pain I can stretch & strenghten without pain Chronic pain in low back and left leg pain Rehabilitation/Strength To keep my muscles strong so I can walk and function daily Pain is primary, physical therapy and relaxation a close second To exercise for fitness despite injuries Post surgery rehab
