Healthy Future Citizens Physical education plays an important role in a child’s overall well-being. I believe we need to develop healthy future citizens with the knowledge and capabilities to make healthy lifestyle choices; in order to minimise the increasing numbers of obesity and related health issues that our society has been facing.

Good links to health and safety The physical educational classroom teaches important health topics such as learning how to take care of yourself by properly grooming, eating healthy and regular exercise. As well as safety topics such as road and water safety and the effects of drug use, consequently by acquiring this knowledge students will be able to lead a healthy, hygienic lifestyle and road and water fatalities will be reduced.

Promotes academic learning With the knowledge of healthy eating and opportunities to participate the physical activities at school; student’s concentration and performance in the classroom will improve.

Builds self-esteem By participating in physical education, students can develop positive attitudes and build their self-esteem as it allows children that are academically challenge but are good athletically to excel. Furthermore, it gives students the opportunities to communicate and cooperate with others, therefore fostering their social skills; additionally it also gives students the opportunity to work together to a common goal which promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. Develops cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship skills.
